I have been with Surprise Parties since September of 2002. I have held the authorized trainer position for about the last 4 years and then it all starts to blend together. My Surprise Party life however started two years prior to my career when I started holding parties.
I had always been interested in starting a home party career. I came very close on many occasions to becoming the candle lady, among others but was always scared off by the amount of parties I had to have on the books just to get started and the lack of professionalism. You write a check and the next day you are hired sight unseen. I did not like the sales pitch I always got with other companies on how I was going to be rich, on vacation and driving a new car for doing nothing, it was that easy. I loved Surprise Parties for the simple fact that I had to interview, I had to train, I was going to have support. I felt it to be the most "real" vision. I am a strong believer in if it sounds to good to be true, it is. About a year before becoming a rep, my Surprise Lady tried to recruit me. I will be the first to tell you I held off in search of the catch. I am happy and proud to say there wasn't one. My Surprise Lady at the time simply kept a graph of all of the parties she did for my friends and their friends and then she listed the names who they booked off of and her profits for each party. She finally approached me with a very large number and said "this would have been your money if you would just bite the bullet the choice is yours." The very simple idea at this point was I could do what I was doing, and what I believed in and instead of giving her my money it was going to be "MY" money. I quickly made the choice that would change my life.
I love the freedom Surprise Parties gives me to be a business owner, and a wife and mother. I can work as much or as little as I want and at the end of the day I am the one that holds the full responsibility of my success. I choose to work the amount I do that makes me a top producer, but there are several months a year where I take time off to do the other things that I love. I have built a business and client base now that allows me to continue to be successful and have time to dedicate to my life. I could not do any other job and at the end of the day know that I am not only making money but I am changing lives. Every time you go to work as a Surprise Lady they are happy to see you. I don't know of any job in corporate America where you can make full time money, working part time and always be the good guy. I have always said that what makes me the proudest is not being able to sell the products I do but that I get to offer the service that I do. I have been given the gift with this company of meeting some fantastic woman and one by one through private shopping know that I am offering them something that no other "retailer" of our kind can and that is discretion and personal attention. I can't imagine doing anything else. I have a lot of people that I could thank for helping me reach my goals but for the sake of sounding like a bad Oscar speech I will leave it at thanks to Carol for always believing in me, and helping me see the light both professionally and personally, and to Surprise Parties for this amazing opportunity.

My story with Surprise Parties started, like many of us, with a party that a friend of mine threw. Tom and I
were recently married and had discussed that when children came along, I would be a stay at home mom.
At the time I was working as a foster care case worker for a private child welfare agency. Interesting work, but it could get crazy and you never knew when one of your cases would blow up and you would get a call over the weekend. After the show, I thought "I could do this and still be able to stay at home." I talked to the rep in the shopping room and held onto her card.
Juniper was born in January 2002, and when she was about 11 months old I called Home Office. I figured I could do it until she (and any other children who came along) was in school full time and then I would go back to work.
I had a slow start with my parties. One of my friends cancelled and another postponed due to early labor pains. I did my first show and booked a show for the next month. That show held and I booked a show for the next month. That held, but then, nothing for two months. I remember being at one of the sales meetings, you know, the really big ones you used to do in Elgin, and feeling like such a loser. I was hearing all these sales figures and here I was with no parties. Well, then you started doing the lead list. I still remember dancing around my house for like an hour when I realized for the first time I had three parties booked for one month. 20As I did more parties, I got more confident and that led to more bookings. Now, I average 7-10 parties a month.
I truly believe one of the keys to my success is my customer service. I will practically bend over backwards to make a hostess and her guests happy. I also believe I am successful because of my sense of humor during my presentation. I don't see myself as a sales person. I see myself as a comedienne there to entertain. And oh yeah, I have some really cool stuff you want to buy too. I have gotten so many compliments on how the ladies have enjoyed my show and how I made them feel comfortable about our product line.
There have been so many other firsts that I still remember getting excited over, first Grand Club party, first time seeing my name on the list of your "Top" reps and the company's list. I still open those email's up with great anticipation to see where my name will be. Over six years later, I still get excited about getting my order on Wednesday. And now here I am, with Juniper in first grade and Lennon starting Kindergarten in the fall. Can I tell you how much I don't want to go back to a "real job"?! I know that having Surprise Parties in my life helped me be a better wife, mom and woman in general. I am contributing financially, I have gotten to be there for all the moments my children needed me. Plus I have helped so many women. Most importantly, I have something outside=2 0of the house that is mine, is fun and that I am GREAT at! I wish all women could experience this!

I started my career with Surprise Parties over 2 years ago. At the time I was looking for something to do part time. Something to get me out of the house and give
me an occasional break from being a stay at home mom.
I didn't want to work on any schedule except my families and I thought this would be exactly what I
was looking for. Turns out it was so much more then that. I loved the fact that I could make my own schedule and basically be my own boss. It wasn't until my first party that I realized what a great opportunity I had just signed up for. I walked out of that party with more money in my hands then I used to make in a week at my old job! My mind was racing and it hit me as I was driving home that night that if I did that a couple of times a week I could potentially bring home more money then I did working 24 hour shifts on the ambulance before I became a stay at home mom! Surprise Parties gives me the best of both worlds. I get to stay at home with my children and be there for them whenever they need me, I get to be at home with my husband on his days off (he works 24 hours on and 48 hours off) and I also get to contribute financially and feel that sense of accomplishment that having a great party and helping another woman brings me. It feels great to learn later down the road that a trick or tip I gave a client worked great or how something I had said at a party really clicked. I love running in to clients in the store or out somewhere and know that they are excited to see me. Sometimes they share more then I need to know but hey...I can handle that! I'm helping other woman feel wonderful and sexy about themselves! How could I not love this job?!?!
In the beginning I was always the girl that was a little hesitant to just bring it up to a stranger because of how they might react or was nervous to leave my flyer's in certain places because people might not like that. Always wishing I had more parties and wondering why I didn't. All I was doing by being hesitant about all of it was hurting myself (and my income) and not showing people how proud I was of what I was doing. Those days were over! I decided back then that I was going to kick it up a notch. I was ready to seriously kick butt with my business. If people didn't want to talk about it then they could walk away. If people didn't like my flyer's they could direct their eyes elsewhere. I was ready to bring it on! I wanted my parties to be SO fun and fabulous that my clients were still telling people about it days and weeks later. If someone was talking about having a girls night I wanted someone to say "you HAVE to have Christy do a Surprise Party!". I wanted to guarantee that my clients wanted to come to me and no other company. I wanted my name to be coming out of peoples mouths. I figured all of that out and then realized that it isn't going to happen without some work. I learned something during this time...if you work it...it works!! People started calling me that have seen my business card around town, heard from their friends that I was fun, grabbed my magnet from somewhere, etc. As the phone calls started coming in I realized that not only was this getting me great business but this was making me feel great about myself! Surprise Parties has not only given me a great source for income but it has given me a great feeling of empowerment. You know that "girl" I mentioned in the beginning of this paragraph that was hesitant to talk about her job?? No longer there. Now this WOMAN is ready to shout from the rooftops! I am in complete control of my success and there is no stopping me now!!!

Thank you even more for knowing that I had it in me to succeed. I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. I feel like there is no end to what I can do with this and I am ready to take it on!
